Bakemonogatari has easily become my favorite series for this season, since Haruhi 2 flipped off its entire fanbase with that Endless Eight crap. I’m still not over that.
Anyway, since we were talking about cosplaying characters from Bakemonogatari on the forums, I decided to see what came up in an image search. Of course, not much did, since it’s still relatively new and us westerners don’t exactly have the resources that those in Japan do. Cosplayer’s Cure, a predominately Japanese-user cosplay site, did have a decent collection, however. Here are my favorites.
Yeah, all the ones for Koyomi Araragi look like females. Girls just do guy cosplays better. I’m in love with all the Shinobu cosplayers at the bottom. Except the first one looks like she has impossibly small feet. Enough to make Reducto from Harvey Birdman quiver with pleasure.
This also goes to show you how seriously Japanese take cosplay, all of these pictures are nice. Vibrant, interesting colors, good make up, good lighting, props, poses. Not the hastily taken photo at a convention with horrible backgrounds. High standards, I know.

I don’t think it’s that American cosplay photos are crappier vs. Japanese cosplay photos, more like more Japanese actually get professional photographers to do a photoset vs. less Americans doing that… I’ve seen a couple professional photosets taken right at Fanime, they’re just not a majority of the cosplay pics posted from there.
@ Tim
Yeah, that’s kinda what I meant. They (the cosplayers) go through all that trouble to make sure it looks good. Though, even some of the impromptu cosplay photos I’ve seen from Japan are well done.
Like I said, they have much better resources there to throw together a great costume than we have here. They actually have cosplay stores available. I’ve only ever seen one of those here, and it only had the most popular series’ costumes and mostly gothic lolita stuff (surprisingly, I’m not talking about Hot Topic, it’s a store in LA).
We’re stuck either making sewing together our own stuff, or throwing pieces of clothing together that sort of look right from thrift stores, or ordering online.
too many asians in those pics…
